An individuals conflict with social club is the central story in Henrik Ibsens A Dolls theatre. The protagonist of the play, Nora, develops a conflict within herself. Ibsen displays the tension mingled with Noras reluctance to conform to societys expectations for women and her internal mocking of whether or not she wants her own identity, without societys expectations influencing her identity. Nora does not know if organism the quintessential wife and conform to society is better than being independent and discovering her individuality. Nora finds it difficult to root amongst the security of conforming and the satisfaction of refusing to conform, which contributes to the idea of the sacrificial place of women. Nora demonstrates her conformity by acting like Torvalds dolly; she is precise submissive to Torvalds insults. Furthermore, Nora acts in a truly passive way when Torvald calls her degrading pet names. Additionally, Nora dresses up for Torvald and dances for h im because Torvald thinks she is very attractive when she does so. These actions make Nora feel important, which negate her concerns of being too submissive to her husbands insulting requests.
